England, UK (GS) Mary Elizabeth Truss is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) after the official resignation of the scandal-riddled former Premier Boris Johnson. This follows her official appointment by the Queen of England. Elizabeth II, at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland today.
Ms. Truss is a conservative member of the British Parliament representing South West Norfolk. and a former Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs. She is also a former Cabinet Minister in charge of Women and Equalities.
The new Prime Minister is expected to give an address to the British public later today at No. 10 Downing Street. She is also expected to start naming members of her Cabinet.
Ms. Truss is under an enormous constraint to re-assure the anxious British citizens who are looking for a reprieve from their economic woes. The rising cost of energy and sky-rocketing cost of living expenses are among some of her top priorities.
Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister, earlier in his speech after tendering his resignation letter to the Queen rallied the Conservative Party to unite behind his successor to tackle the myriad of issues that are on the minds of the British public.
Johnson defended his own record in office, calling himself “a booster rocket” that had “fulfilled its function”.
